Tips for parents
Welcome to our Numeracy Passport page where we will explain the rational behind the Numeracy Passport and share how it is used at DESS.
In FS2 and the first 2 terms of Year 1, this passport will be used as a tool at home for parents to work on with their children. In Term 3 of Year 1, the children will begin to be tested more formally in school, in preparation for Year 2 and their journey through the school. The tests are approximately 30 seconds and are usually written. However, children will sometimes be given the opportunity to be tested orally if necessary.
Although we have done our best to ensure that the objectives in each level progress in difficulty, children DO NOT have to complete them in the order that they are written. They can choose the order in which they would like to complete the objectives within each level.
It is expected that children should not need to stay on one objective for more than 4 or 5 weeks maximum. If, after 5 weeks, they have still not managed to achieve the objective, they should move onto another one which is more achievable. When your child has achieved all of the objectives in one level, they will receive a certificate to recognise their achievement. On the school website, there are some links to games to support many of the objectives.
